Jonathan’s Place: Our December Charity of the Month

Jonathan’s Place has one mission – to provide safe, loving homes and specialized services for children in Dallas who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected.

Lisa Matthews, a native of Dallas, founded Jonathan’s Place in 1991 and has since obtained licenses to operate three programs that help children – an emergency shelter, a foster and adoption family program and a treatment program specifically for girls.

The emergency shelter provides temporary residential care to children who have been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services for abuse and neglect. Children can stay in the shelter for a maximum of 30 to 90 days before being placed with a safe relative, in a foster home or with an adoption family by CPS.

The Foster and Adoptive Family Program serves as a Child Placing Agency for the shelter. The program recruits, trains and certifies families to either serve as foster families for the children or prepare them for the adoption process.

The Girls Treatment Program is a long-term, residential program for girls age 10–17 who require a higher level of therapeutic care than children in the shelter. These girls have been traumatized from being removed from their biological family homes and being bounced from foster home to foster home.

Rob Legg, our fantastic Account Manager for Thruster, holds Jonathan’s Place very close to his heart. “Having two young sons of my own, my heart breaks when I see young kids suffering from neglect.” He supports their mission to have a safe haven for young kids in the DFW area, and believes their compassionate care inspires hope in these children.
