Liz, I’m using the Belkin TuneTalk. Since it takes up the width of the iPod, is flatter and shorter it might be less conspicuous. The downside is that it blocks the headphone jack. Still, might be what you’re looking for.

Iphone needs an app can Call records, I know you can do that, only needs apple open this option in OS, all others cell phones white all others OS has, its not good for apple.

Liz, I saw this post, but just has Macallly ones. The FAQ says the mic must plug into the iPod’s dock connector (not the headphone jack) to work. And you must have the 2.2 software update.

Do you have any other recommendations of microphones to try with 1st Gen iPod touches? (I have not bought one yet but was hoping for one that was less conspicuous than those by Macally…)

Yes, the update certainly fixed the issue. I actually got an email shortly after my post from a Voxie programmer, and later a follow-up, which was quite impressive. Kudos to a company that responds to its customers so quickly. (Do you hear that, Kaiser Permanente??). The program works perfectly now, which is great…

…and not so great. For now that it’s fixed, I’m forced to actually hear 1) my own voice, and 2) my own thoughts, thus retroactively robbing my visions of masculine genius. Perhaps in the next release, they’ll add a option to make my voice deeper (James Earl Jones) and my thoughts more clever. Seriously, guys, think about it.

The usability of this app would be greatly improved if you added fast-forward and fast-rewind to the playback/record screen. Remove “add title”and “staus” from that screen and put them in the “Actions” menu, since they are less used. Add Fast-forward and fast-rewind where they had been. Arguably the most important aspect of a voice recorder isn’t the initial recording but is the ease of playback (and navigation of the recording) since this is the feature we will use most often. The sound wave timeline thing is cool but hard to use on recordings of more than a couple minutes.

Emailed tech support, got almost instant step by step instructions how to fix the problem. The problem is solved.

Voxie 1.5.1 (free update) fixes the issues that Lena and Karim had. Apple’s 2.2 iPhone OS update broke a lot of apps and Voxie was one of them. But Voxie’s update fixes all of these things. The update was posted to the App Store on 11/23 so you all probably have it by now, but I thought I’d mention it.

Voxie seems cool…until it doesn’t work. I just installed it on my iPhone, and it worked fine initially. After I recorded my second memo, though, the audio playback stopped working. (The sound was fine when I transferred it to my computer, and the iPod and other sound features on the phone are working correctly).

I also noticed another strange bug: when I replayed, say, a 5-second saved file, the timer continued to elapse indefinitely, as though the file were infinitely long.

I uninstalled Voxie, then reinstalled it, but that did not solve the problem. It’s too bad. It looks like a great program, but for some reason it doesn’t seem to work with my iPhone’s audio output.

I bet a lot of physicians would jump on this with two more features:
batch send: I typically see 15 patients in a morning. I’d like to save that as a group (just in case) and send it as a group to transcription.
File type option: lots of professional transcription devices use other file types eg wave, or dss. How about a choice?
