Rocketeer Recognition: Code Coalition Profiles iOS Developer Alex McGregor

Prior to becoming an iOS developer, Rocketeer Alex McGregor was working in public accounting as an IT auditor. Alex said that within six months, he knew the life of an IT auditor was not for him. “I wanted to build something I could show to my friends and family and be proud of my work,” he said.

Reknowned development instructor and co-founder of Code Coalition, Eliot Arntz, took on the role as McGregor’s mentor, meeting once or twice a week to review code, debugging, paired coding, architecture, best practices and to discuss current events in iOS.

Following intense training, Alex went on to pursue his development career and is currently an iOS development rock star here at Bottle Rocket! He says, “If you’re thinking about making the shift like I did, don’t waste any more time. Dive in. Build beautiful things that people love."

App Launch: LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Robot Commander is Now Available for iPhone and Android

Robot Commander, the command app for LEGO® MINDSTORMS®, has officially launched!

Robot Commander controls LEGO® MINDSTORMS® EV3 robots that walk, talk, think and do anything you can imagine – all from your device. The app connects with five different robots via Bluetooth to bring their distinct features to life.

Rocketeer Tommy Eubanks said this was a unique project for Bottle Rocket, particularly from a quality assurance standpoint.

“This was Bottle Rocket’s first project that required a hardware accessory. Thorough testing involved crosschecking different LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robot configurations in addition to the usual testing across iOS and Android devices,” Eubanks said.

The project was a labor of love for Rocketeers and the results were well worth it. LEGO's website calls this product the most advanced technology they’ve ever developed.

The app is available on iTunes and Google Play
