Fuel Finder App Now Live on Android

Save hundreds of dollars a year with Fuel Finder by Bottle Rocket Apps! The app voted the best gas price app on the iPhone and iPod is now available for Android too!

Fuel Finder is the most comprehensive source of gas prices in the US and Canada because it is compiled from price reports submitted by millions of users, just like you.  And the Fuel Finder app is the most feature-rich fuel finder available for the Android.

Gas prices change frequently and may vary as much as 20% within only a few blocks.  It’s important to be able to find the service station with the lowest priced fuel at the click of a button.

Fuel Finder is currently available on iTunes and Google Play, and will soon be released on Amazon as well.

Camp Sol: Our May Charity of the Month

Camp Sol is a non-profit organization that provides support to families who have experienced the death of a child. Founded in 1999, the camp’s mission is to heal the family heart “through a supportive, warm environment where grieving families share experiences and participate in a variety of fun and nurturing activities.”

I nominated this month’s charity because I believe in the mission of this organization. After meeting many of the family members at the recent Camp Sol 5k fundraiser, I just knew I had to spread the word. I am a firm believer in peer healing and having a support group to get through impossibly tough times.

Camp Sol utilizes the experiences of parents who have experienced the death of a child, along with the expertise and support of child life specialists, nurses, physicians, chaplains, social workers, play therapists, music therapists, psychologists and community grief support representatives to assist these grieving families.

Bottle Rocket Hosts DSVC Working Lunch

To continue our mission to educate, learn from and involve the local community here at Bottle Rocket, we hosted this month’s Dallas Society of Visual Communications (DSVC) working lunch in our office last week. The event was open to the public and before long the new faces started piling in.

Professionals from diverse disciplines – writers, photographers, illustrators, producers, Internet and mobile professionals and more – gathered to hear Stephen P. Anderson speak on Seductive Interaction Design: Creating Playful, Fun and Effective User Experiences.

The attendees discussed what makes something truly emotionally engaging and whether or not there is a place for delight in digital business applications. Stephen also guided us through a couple specific examples of sites who have designed serendipity, arousal, rewards, and other seductive elements into their applications.

The Dallas Society of Visual Communications (DSVC) was founded in 1957 and has grown to become one of the largest independent clubs of its kind. DSVC Working Lunches are lunch-hour events that make industry information and coaching on real-world creative and business issues more accessible to busy professionals.

Check out the DSVC site for more information on upcoming lunches and other events!

SPIN Play won Tablet App of the Year at the 2012 Society of Publication Designers Awards last week in New York. The annual SPD Awards, now in their 47th year, honor the best in editorial design, photography and illustration in both print and digital.

For those keeping score, this is the fourth major award that SPIN Play has won since it was released in the spring of 2011. Previously, the SPIN Play app has won a 2011 Media Vanguard Award, 2011 HOW Interactive Design Award and was recognized as a finalist for the 2012 Digital Ellies earlier this year. SPIN Play was also inducted into Apple’s App Hall of Fame – joining two other Bottle Rocket apps, NPRand The Civil War Today.

Congratulations to our partners and friends at SPIN Media on the continued success!

Judy Johnson, director of product innovation for Dallas-based app developer Bottle Rocket, thinks a lot of people are approaching the idea of the second screen completely wrong.

“Up until now, [second screen] has been mobile,” she said Oct. 20, speaking during a second screen panel at the Digital Hollywood conference. “Now, we’re seeing any screen can be the second screen.”
