16-year old Anna Lee Basso was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer that occurs most frequently in teenagers, in November 2009.
1million4anna was originally a website created with the help of Anna's neighbor, Mark Hall and his agency, Firehouse, to encourage 1 million prayers for Anna. Anna lived to graduate from high school, and to see the site reach 1 million prayers, before succumbing to the disease in June 2011.
To honor Anna's memory, her parents created the 1millionforAnna foundation. Their mission is " to wrap our arms around Ewing’s families. We will support them and pray for them. If the parents have a need or the child has a special wish, we will be there to help. Tomorrow, when that Ewing’s warrior has completed their battle and is ready for the future – we will be there when that future includes college – with scholarship opportunities. And every day – we will be aware and learn about Ewing’s research being conducted – and our foundation will support promising research, with the guidance of our medical advisory team”.
James Helms, a superb Strategist at Bottle Rocket, nominated this foundation for our charity of the month. To read more about Anna and her legacy, click here.
